Das Hanok-Dorf Bukchon blickt auf eine über 600-jährige Geschichte zurück und seine luxuriösen ziegelbedeckten Hanok-Häuser stammen noch aus der Joseon-Zeit.
Der Name Bukchon (bedeutet etwa "Norddorf") ergibt sich daraus, dass es nördlich des Wasserlaufes Cheonggyecheon liegt.
