Der Tempel Sangwonsa befindet sich am Fuß des Gipfels Namdaebong auf der südlichen Spitze vom Berg Chiaksan. Hier entstand die Legende eines Fasans, der eine Gegenleistung für einen Gefallen gibt und die zur Ursprungsgeschichte des Berges wurde.
Es ist nicht bekannt, wann genau der Tempel gebaut wurde, doch aufgrund der Steinpagode und weiteren Überresten soll er vermutlich während der Silla-Zeit entstanden sein.
