Seitdem führende Historiker in ihren Forschungen darauf stießen, wird seit 1996 eine Wachablösung am Palast Deoksugung aufgeführt. Die Vorführung findt vor dem Tor Daehanmun statt und ist eine Tradition im Stile der Wachablösung vor dem Buckingham Palace in London und somit auch eine seltene Gelegenheit, die Hofskultur zu erleben. Das Tor wird zu bestimmten vorgegebenen Zeiten geöffnet und geschlossen. Die Aufsicht trägt die Verantwortung für die Wachen und Patrouillen und führt drei Mal am Tage eine Wachablösung durch.
Die königliche Wachablösung ist eine wunderbare Gelegenheit, traditionelle Kultur zu erleben. Es wird empfohlen, eine Kamera mitzubringen, denn die Kostüme der Wachen mit ihren prächtigen Farben sind wirklich wunderschön. Zwar kann man während der Wachablösung keine Bilder mit den Wachen schießen, doch dies ist nach der Vorführung möglich.
