Bunjuryeong Wildflower Trekking is a trekking course that extends from Geumdaebong Peak in Taebaek's Daedeoksan Mountain to the source of the Hangang River, Geomnyongso Spring. The trekking section (6.9 km) from Dumundongjae Pass to Bunjuryeong Pass is renowned as a paradise for wildflowers and wildlife, including natural monuments like the flying squirrel and ichneumon wasp. Visitors can access this trekking course by making a reservation in advance.

The Taebaek Sunflower Festival takes place in Guwau Village, celebrating the area’s wide array of colorful wildflowers and endless field of sunflowers (the largest sunflower patch in Korea). The festival takes place in an area of 661,157 ㎡ filled with 300 species of wild flowers along with a sunflower field walking path. The festival offers hands-on program with wild flowers.

Guwau Village is located below Pijae Hill (also called Samsuryeong) at the entrance to Maebongsan Mountain. The village got its name because its topography resembles the scenery of nine cows peacefully lying around. The Alpine Botanical Garden is located 800-900 meters above sea level and protects the endangered alpine plant species from disappearing.

The botanical garden also offers visitors an opportunity to conveniently observe some rare flowers and plants. In August, when the sunflowers are in full bloom, the Taebaek Sunflower Festival is held at Guwau Village. In addition to celebrating the area’s wide array of colorful flowers, the festival also has a variety of attractions such as a drawing exhibition, a photo exhibition, and an environmental sculpture exhibition using repurposed materials.

Samtan Art Mine (삼탄아트마인)

Samtan Art Mine is an art complex transformed from an abandoned mine. After being used as a coal mine for 40 years, the mine turned into an art complex in 2001. Memilchon Makguksu gained public attention for its delicious gondeure bap (thistle rice) and makguksu (buckwheat noodles) after appearing in the television show "Wednesday Food Talk." The restaurant has even earned patents for their original recipes of certain dishes. The most popular menu item is Gondeure Set Menu, which includes a thistle hot pot rice served along with a variety of side dishes. The buckwheat noodles served at this restaurant offers a refreshing taste that can only be encountered in Gangwon. The restaurant may run out of ingredients and close early during vacation season, so visitors are advised to call and check for availability in advance. Drivers can use the public parking lot across from the restaurant.

With an elevation of 1,573 meters above sea level, Hambaeksan Mountain is the tallest mountain in the eastern part of Gangwon-do. The main ridge of the mountain stretches between the city of Taebaek to the east and Yeongwol and Jeongseon counties to the west. The mountain offers a fine vantage point from which to get a sweeping look at the entire region (including Taebaeksan and Baegunsan mountains) and commands a striking view of the sunrise over East Sea. Hambaeksan Mountain is particularly well known for its breathtaking snowscapes and extensive wildflower beds.
