Seit den 1970er Jahren gibt es auf dem alten Andong-Markt die Tongdak-Gasse, wo man rohnes oder frittiertes Huhn kaufen kann. Mit der Beliebtheit von scharf mariniertem Chicken mussten die Händler der Gasse eine Lösung finden, und so ist das Fusion-Gericht jjimdak (geschmortes Hähnchen, Glasnudeln und Gemüse in galbijjim-Marinade) entstanden. Der süßlich-scharfe Geschmack und der günstige Preis machten das Gericht in Kürze im ganzen Land bekannt, wodurch die Tongdak-Gasse in die Jjimdak-Gasse umbenannt wurde. Heute gibt es hier über 30 Geschäfte, die an Wochenenden über 20.000 Touristen anlocken. Zwar ist jjimdak kein traditionelles Gericht, doch in "Suunjapbang" und "Eumsik Dimibang", den ältesten Kochbüchern Koreas, wird über eine ähnliche Kochmethode in der Region von Andong geschrieben. Das Gericht hat einen hohen Nährwert, da es voller Protein und Vitamine ist.
