Gare de Jeongdongjin (정동진역)

La gare Jeongdongjin, située à Gangneung, est connue pour être la station la plus proche de la mer en Corée.

Cette gare a été inaugurée en 1962, une inauguration favorisée par la présence de nombreuses mines de charbon aux alentours. La zone des mines a progressivement été transformée en une zone de pêcheurs ce qui entraîna la quasi interruption des circulations de trains au début des années 1990.

En 1995, la zone a gagné en popularité avec le tournage en 1995 du drama le 'sablier' (모래시계).

La gare a ensuite vu de nombreux touristes investir les lieux pour pouvoir profiter des levers de soleil. On trouve désormais des 'trains des levers de soleil' proposant un trajet entre la gare Cheongryangni à Séoul et la gare Jeongdongjin.
