Le village Seorae Maeul, situé près de la route Sapyeong-ro, est parsemé de villas et de belles maisons. Il est situé entre les quartiers de Banpo 4dong et Bangbae-dong. On raconte qu'une rivière circulait en face du village et qu'elle aurait donné le nom au village 'Seorae'. Une autre légende, celle-là plus récente, raconte que les habitants de la région 'Manwiggul' (lieu désormais occupé par le centre des finances 'Jodalcheong') appelaient la zone occupée par le village 'le quartier à l'ouest de la rivière', on trouvait également derrière ce quartier un mont aux pentes escarpées, ce qui fait que la zone était appelée 'Seo-ae' (西涯), mot qui s'est transformé naturellement avec le temps en 'Seo-rae'.
C'est en 1985 que le quartier a commencé à abriter ses premières structures françaises notamment avec le déplacement de l'école française de Séoul au sein du quartier. En 2008, sur les 1000 français déclarés résident en Corée, la moitié environ résidait dans ce quartier. Le quartier est ainsi progressivement devenu un lieu multiculturel ou des personnes d'autres pays sont venues s'installer. Le quartier se situe près de quartiers d'affaires comme Gangnam, de Yangjae, du parc Hangang, de Umyeonsan etc, ce qui en fait un lieu de résidence privilégié.
En entrant dans le village par la route Seorae, vous pourrez trouver le lycée français de Séoul avec notamment des panneaux en français pour la circulation. Le magasin 'Paris Croissant' se distingue des autres magasins du genre en Corée puisqu'il propose des baguettes tout juste sorties du four le matin, préparées selon la recette française du pain. Un succès qui ne se dément pas puisqu'une file d'attente se forme régulièrement tous les matins pour recevoir son pain. Le quartier est ainsi parsemé de petits magasins au charme singulier. Vous trouverez notamment plusieurs restaurants proposant des plats occidentaux.
Le quartier évolue rapidement, puisque plusieurs magasins à vins, des cafés spécialisés, et bien d'autres lieux pour l'art de la table voient le jour régulièrement.
