Explanation
Miamsa Temple's name derives from a legend claiming that rice grows on the sheer cliff face. Founded sometime around 602, the temple underwent many reconstructions following various fires, with the current temple buildings being constructed in 1967. At the entrance to Miamsa Temple, 250 golden Buddha statues line the path, followed by a stupa containing the Buddha’s true relics. Upon entering the temple grounds, a majestic reclining Buddha immediately catches the eye, and the main hall inside enshrines 20,000 Buddha statues. Above the Reclining Buddha stand Yongwangjeon Hall within a small cave, a sculpture of the Child Manjusri in a pond, and a stele commemorating the pairing of the Bodhidharma statue.
