Sangju Silver Sand Beach is busy all year long, with professional athletes coming for physical training in the winter, students camping in the spring and fall, and vacationers visiting the beach in the summer.

Sangju Silver Sand Beach is extremely popular especially in the summertime, attracting up to 1 million tourists who heard about the beach’s sands, waters, and groves. Families and vacationers in the summer especially love this beach, due to its beautiful white sands that stretch for 2 kilometers and slope lazily into the shallow waters that are perfect for children to play in.

Behind the beaches lies Geumsan Mountain, a place well known for its sunrises. If you happen to arrive in the evening, it’s highly recommended that you see the sunrise at Geumsan Boriam in the morning, enjoy the beach’s water during the day, and at last, enjoy an evening of ocean fishing at either Namuseom Island or Dolseom Island (Rock Island), situated right in front of Sangju Beach. To one side of the white sands are campgrounds, and the surrounding area consists of shopping streets and accommodation.

Geumsan Mountain (금산 (남해))

As home to Bogwangsa Temple founded by Monk Wonhyo, Geumsan Mountain was originally called Bogwangsan. Its current name, meaning "to be adorned with silk for eternity," was bestowed upon the mountain by King Taejo in honor of the mountain's spiritual powers, which he believed had listened to his 100-day prayer and consequently helped him rise to the throne as the first king of Joseon. Although the mountain is known to have the largest volume of granite rocks in the archipelago, the mountain's rich soil made it a home to the largest colony of deciduous trees on the southern coast. Boriam Hermitage, known to be one of the three holiest Buddhist prayer sites, is also on Geumsan Mountain.

Dolsando Island (돌산도)

Dolsando is the seventh largest island in Korea and is connected to the mainland via Dolsan Bridge. Ever since construction was completed on December 15, 1984, the 450 meter-long, 11.7 meter-wide bridge has become a popular tourist attraction.

There is plenty to see on Dolsando Island including numerous scenic spots and historic sites such as Dolsan Park, Musulmok Battlefield, Jeollanam-do Fisheries Exhibition Hall, Bangjukpo Beach, Hyangiram Hermitage, and Eunjeogam Hermitage. Located beneath Dolsan Bridge is a life-sized model of a Geobukseon (Turtle Ship), which played an important role in the Korean Navy’s victories during the Imjinwaeran War (1592-1598). Visitors will also find plenty of seafood restaurants lining the paved coastal road.

Wind Trace Art Museum, located at the entrance of the Namhae Recreational Hinoki Forest, is a unique art museum focused on the theme of wind. The museum grounds near the Naesan Reservoir showcase an array of windmills, crafted by installation artist Choi Yeongho. It includes a Flat Space, a Multidimensional Space, and a Sculpture Park. The museum's exhibition halls, divided into the first and second hall, present new artworks on a monthly basis.

Namhae Pyeonbaek National Recreational Forest, opened in 1998, is located near the south sea with a forest full of cypress trees. With a total area of 2.27 million square meters, the recreational forest is an ideal place for relaxation with a view. The observatory, approximately one hour walk from the entrance, provides an amazing view of the south sea with various size islands. Seolli Skywalk in Namhae offers panoramic views of the entire area. The first asymmetrical cantilever bridge in the nation, the skywalk stands at 36 meters off the ground and stretches 79 meters with a x_width of 4.5 meters. The base point of Hallyeohaesang National Park, Odongdo Island is famous for colonies of camellia found on the island. In addition to the camellias, there are 70 species of wildflowers and 200 species of evergreen trees that flourish here. The island is known to be most beautiful in mid-March when the camellias are at its peak. To get to the island, it takes around 10 minutes by car from Yeosu downtown. Other options include the Dongbaek Train, a ferry or motorboat.
