The Chuncheon International Mime Festival is recognized as one of the world’s top three mime festivals, alongside France’s Mimos Mime Festival and the London International Mime Festival in the UK. The festival kicks off with “City of Water: Ah! Surajang,” transforming the city center into a massive water park. The highlight of the festival is the fire performance “City of Fire: Dokkaebi Nanjang,” which lights up the dark night. During the festival, various performances based on “body, movement, and image” are held throughout Chuncheon. As a performing arts festival connecting the city, art, and its citizens, it continues to grow in popularity as one of Korea’s leading performance festivals.

Gongjaksan Mountain (887 m), home to Sutasa Temple and named for its resemblance to a peacock proudly displaying its tail feathers, gives visitors a bird’s-eye-view of Hongcheon. From the bottom, Gongjaksan Mountain looks like a giant laying on his back, looking up to the sky. The mountain offers elegant azaleas in spring, beautiful fall foliage, majestic cliffs with unusual rocks, colonies of pine trees, and a serene snowscape in winter.
Sutasa Valley, stretching over 12 kilometers between Sutasa Temple and Nocheon-ri, is full of large ponds and broad bedrocks and is flanked by rocky cliffs and pine groves.
Located among the foothills, Sutasa Temple is an ancient temple built by Monk Wonhyo in AD 708. The temple boasts numerous cultural properties including the gabled roof of Daejeokgwangjeon, a bronze bell, a three-tiered pagoda, and Wolinseokbo, a biography of Buddha that has been designated as a National Treasure.

This Soyanggang Maiden Statue stands high between Soyanggang Skywalk and Soyang i(2)gyo Bridge. This statue, representing Korea’s popular song Soyanggang Cheonyeo (maiden), is 12 m high in total, combining 5 m-high base stone and 7 m-high body. If you see it close to, the statue looks very big. The statue depicts a maiden who holds her skirt hem with one hand and reed with the other, and her breast-knot flapping in the wind. The base stone has the inscription of lyrics. The lyrics belong to the song Soyanggang Cheonyeo composed by Ban Ya-wol, who left hit songs, such as Crossing the Teary Pass of Bakdaljae, and Brokenhearted Miari Ridge.

The Soyanggang Skywalk, extending over the river, spans 174 meters in length, with a transparent glass floor covering 156 meters of its section. At the end of the skywalk, visitors will find a circular plaza and an observatory, renowned for their panoramic views, especially of the sunsets. Additionally, the Ssogarisang sculpture, depicting a leopard mandarin fish, stands on the opposite side of the plaza, drawing in visitors. Water from a fountain flows from this sculpture at fixed intervals, adding to the allure.

Sigol Makguksu specializes in Chuncheon’s signature dish makguksu (spicy buckwheat noodles). Preserving a proud culinary tradition of over 30 years, Sigol Makguksu serves some of the area’s finest noodles as well as pyeonyuk (slices of boiled meat) and traditional tofu dishes. The restaurant is located in Sinbuk-eup past the Yeougogae Pass to the north of downtown Chuncheon.

Originally named Gongji Park, the park is located near Gongjicheon Stream and has been decorated with sculptures since 1997. Twenty-nine pieces are displayed and a water clock was installed in 2001. Gongjicheon Resort is located nearby the park with an outdoor stage and fountain. Water sports such as boat-riding can be enjoyed on the lake. The lake and the fountain are great locations to spend time with family and friends. Every year diverse cultural art events such as the Spring Art Performance as well as the Soyangjae Chuncheon Poetry Recital take place in the park and Gongjicheon area. A Children’s Center and War Memorial are also located nearby.

Lachiveum Namhae is a café in the Healing Village, a multifunctional cultural space in Namhae-gun. A signature item on the menu is the Namhae chamdarae ade (Namhae kiwi ade), made with locally grown kiwi from Namhae. In addition, visitors can savor a variety of bread and coffee crafted by renowned pastry chefs. The café provides a pleasant setting to enjoy coffee while admiring the panoramic view of the Namhae Sea.

The area of Gongjicheon Stream connected to the Bukhangang River is a shelter in the middle of Chuncheon City. This recreation area comprises various facilities along both sides of the Gongjicheon Stream, including Gongjicheon Sculpture Park, Uiam Park, Memorial Hall for Ethiopian Veterans in the Korean War, inline skating rink, outdoor stage, and fountain. Visitors can cross the water easily through the Gongjicheon Bridge and the lower pedestrian bridge. The waterside trail and the bike path are popular among citizens with the seasonal scenic view. In particular, cherry blossom attracts many visitors in spring. There is a bicycle rental stand nearby the stream. It is recommended to enjoy biking around the Gongjicheon Stream or along the Uiamho Bike Path. Another interesting ride is a pedal boat with which visitors can create a romantic memory with a splendid scenery of the Gongjicheon Stream.
