[Ganghwa Nadeul-gil Course 1] Simdo History & Culture Trail
Course 1 stretches over an 18-kilometer area between Ganghwa Bus Terminal and Gapgot Fortification. The trail includes sites such as Yongheunggung Palace, Ganghwahyanggyo Local Confucian School and an Anglican church. The course is an easy walk, with plenty of areas to stop and explore, as well as restaurants and convenience facilities for an enjoyable stroll.

Kkokko Orijumulleok is a self-cook restaurant specializing in orijumulleok (spicy stir-fried marinated duck), a dish made by marinating duck in red chili paste. Patrons pay for their meat, rice, lettuce, mushrooms, and other ingredients, which they cook to their own preference. The self-serve section offers kimchi, ssamjang (mixed paste), garlic, and onions. After enjoying the meat, guests can delight in mixing the rice with laver and vegetables to make a delicious bokkeumbap (fried rice).

Joyang Bangjik Cafe (조양방직)

Joyang Bangjik, which means Joyang Textile in English, was the first rayon factory established with domestic funds in 1933 in Ganghwa, but were closed down as Ganghwa textiles declined over the years. The empty building was left in ruins until it became renovated as a huge cafe. A demolished wall became a wonderful art gallery and movie theater, a long workbench was turned into a coffee table, and the space where machines and people worked was filled with antiques found in China and Europe. A British door with a broken window, a round mirror from an old train in the Czech Republic, and a fish-shaped bun machine that struggled to turn itself over every winter are naturally arranged as if they were there originally, giving an impression of time throughout the cafe by utilizing the factory and building frame of more than 990 square meters. Currently, various drinks and cakes are offered.

Deokpojin Museum of Education was established by Kim Dong-seon, an elementary school teacher, for his wife, Lee In-suk who lost her eye sight due to an accident while she was also an elementary school teacher. He decided to build the museum to cheer up his wife who was deeply depressed with the fact that she could no longer teach students. Through the husband's will to give his wife opportunities to teach children again, his dream to create hands-on educational programs not available in the ordinary school education system became a reality as well. The museum was finally opened in 1996 with materials collected by the couple, comprised of a music class taught with her pump organ and Mr. Kim's collection of various school materials such as a book wrapper, a nature textbook from 1960, nickel silver lunch boxes and more. These collections attracts many visitors, from kindergarteners to university students and even family visitors.
