Le long de ce célèbre quartier gastronomique de Gangneung, les haricots sont écrasés pour produire le Chodang Sundubu. Ensuite, en plusieurs étapes, l’eau salée de la Mer de l’Est est utilisée dans le processus de coagulation, pour obtenir un tofu doux et léger. Le nom du village « Chodang » vient du nom d’une célèbre famille qui vivait autrefois à cet endroit, du nom de Chodang-Heoyeop. Heoyeop était le père de l’écrivain et poète Heo-gyun (1569-1618) et de la poétesse Heonan-seolheon (1563-1589). Une maison de style traditionnel coréen a été construite à l’endroit où se trouvait autrefois la maison de Heo-gyun et de Heonan-seolheon.
