Le long de ce célèbre quartier gastronomique de Gangneung, les haricots sont écrasés pour produire le Chodang Sundubu. Le nom du village « Chodang » vient du nom d’une célèbre famille qui vivait autrefois à cet endroit, du nom de Chodang-Heoyeop. Heoyeop était le père de l’écrivain et poète Heo-gyun (1569-1618) et de la poétesse Heonan-seolheon (1563-1589).
