Le temple Beomeosa est situé au pied de la fameuse montagne de Busan, le Mt. Geumjeongsan. Il a été construit il y a 1.300 ans par le moine Uisang Ui Sang, durant 18ème année (678) du règne du roi Munmu (règne 661~681) lors de la période du royaume Silla (le royaume occupait principalement la région de la Province Gyeongsang-do, en l’an 678).

Dans le livre de géographie Donggungn-Yeoji-Seungnam, ‘L’origine du temple Beomeosa’, on trouve le passage suivant : “on trouve un puit sur la crête du Mt. Geumjeongsan et l’eau de ce puit a des reflets dorées. Dedans, un poisson doré y frétille et y joue après être descendu du ciel. C’est pourquoi on a donné le nom de Geumsaem (puit doré) à la montagne et de 'Poisson du Pays du Ciel' au temple.”

Le bâtiment originel du temple Beomeosa a été détruit lors de l’Invasion Imjinwaeran (Invasion japonaise de la Corée, en 1592) mais il a été rénové en 1713 et est resté intact depuis. Le sanctuaire Daeungjeon est un des plus beaux sanctuaires de la dynastie Joseon (1392∼1910). Il comporte un ensemble de sites historiques avec notamment la porte Iljumun, la pagode à trois étages et aux quatre pilliers construite durant le IXème siècle, des pavillons, onze ermitages, etc. Désigné comme monument naturel, c’est pendant le mois de mai qu’il est le mieux exposé avec ses bois de glycines et ses belles vallées.
