Hanggyo renvoie aux structures éducatives durant la dynastie Joseon. A l’image des élèves du secondaire actuellement, Hanggyo était l’endroit où les enfants des officiers recevaient une éducation et où des rituels avaient lieu en mémoire de Confucius. L’école confucéenne de Yangcheon Hyanggyo était la seule école du genre à Séoul. Construite durant la 12ème année de règne du roi Taejong (1411), l’école fut entièrement rénovée en 1981. La structure comprenait initialement 8 bâtiments, incluant Daeseongjeon, Myeongryundang, Jeonsacheong, Dongjae, Seojae, Naesammun, et Waesammun. Désormais, un rituel pour Confucius se déroule dans les lieux deux fois par an, au printemps et en automne.
