Le lieu est aussi un lieu d'histoire. En effet, le quartier d'Unyang-dong, situé au pied du mont Modamsan où se trouve le village d'art de Gimpo, est présumé comme étant à l'origine de l'ancien royaume de Baekje.

Le village est adossé au mont Modamsan en bordure d'une vaste plaine traversée par le ruisseau Najincheon. Au mont Modamsan ont été découvertes les plus anciennes boucles d'oreilles en or jamais trouvées, une épée en fer de 120 cm et une tombe datant de l'époque Mahan ainsi que de nombreux lieux d'habitation datant du Néolithique et de l'âge du bronze mais aussi des tombes Jiseok (dolmens) de l'âge du bronze. On estime qu'une grande tribu s'était installée dans la région de Modamsan il y a très longtemps. Durant la dynastie Joseon, cette région fut appelée Cheonhyeon-ri et Cheongsudong-ri de Seokhan-myeon. Le sanctuaire et la tombe de Shim-ong, un érudit de la dynastie Joseon, qui a reçu le titre honorifique de Yeonguijeong (premier ministre) après sa disparition, se trouve au pied du mont Modamsan.

Forteresse Deokjinjin à Ganghwa (강화 덕진진)

Deokjinjin était un point stratégique de la forteresse extérieure utilisée pour défendre Ganghwa durant l’ère Goryeo (918-1392). Cet ouvrage fut d’abord une base militaire dirigée par un officiel au rang de Cheomsa, sous le commandement la base navale coréenne. En 1677, un officiel au rang de Manho y fut établi avec 26 militaires officiels, 100 soldats, 2 cuirassés et divers équiquements. En 1679, les batilles de Namjangpodae et de Deokjinpodae eurent lieu à cet endroit.
D’autres invasions, française (Byeonginyangyo) et américaine (Shinmiyangyo) ont eu lieu respectivement en 1866 et 1871. Les parties détruites durant Shinmiyangyo furent restaurées en 1977. Des équipements utilisés lors de la bataille de Namjangpodae y sont également installés.
