The base point of Hallyeohaesang National Park, Odongdo Island is famous for colonies of camellia found on the island. In addition to the camellias, there are 70 species of wildflowers and 200 species of evergreen trees that flourish here. The island is known to be most beautiful in mid-March when the camellias are at its peak. To get to the island, it takes around 10 minutes by car from Yeosu downtown. Other options include the Dongbaek Train, a ferry or motorboat.

Gain-ri village in Changseon-myeon, Namhae, Gyeongnam Province, has a primitive fossil site that includes 34 footprints of pterosaurs, or flying dinosaurs. The footprints are deeply imprinted in the wide sheets of rocks arrayed along Dongdaeman Beach. Researchers believe that these enormous footprints belong to a species of huge pterosaur, and visitors can see about 60 smaller footprints that are believed to belong to early humans. The dinosaur footprints and other cretaceous fossils are located along the cape by the shore, so you must time your visit well to see them. According to paleontologists, the footprints are the evidence of three specimens of herbivorous: sauropoda, which walked on two 60 centimeter-long feet; two specimens of ornithopoda, which were also herbivores, that had three toes on each foot; and one specimen of another ornithopod species, a carnivore that had sharp claws and walked on two feet. The layout of the footprints alludes to a situation where the herbivores were walking in a group followed by a carnivore preparing for an attack!

As its name suggests, the store is famous for its gimbap filled with unique ingredients. Bada Gimbap Dolsan Branch specializes in take-out, so there are no dine-in tables within the store. Located on the Yeosubando Peninsula, the city of Yeosu is made up of three historic areas that share the Sino-Korean character “Ryeo” (beautiful: 麗) in their names, namely Yeosu-si, Yeocheon-si, and Yeocheon-gun. The trio was integrated and became one city in April of 1998. Jasan Park is located at the entrance to Odongdo Island’s embankment. It is a place where one can have a view of the city of Yeosu, Odongdo Island, and the sea at Namhae. Climb the steep stairs to the top and find thousands of evergreen trees and plants, planted on a wide plateau. The park also has a 15-meter statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the largest in Korea, unveiled as a part of the great hero’s birthday in 1967 and the first Jinnamje Festival. Inside the park are Jasangak Pavilion and Chunghontap Tower overlooking the sea. Ilchuljeong Pavilion was added in 1998 to serve as a refuge for the citizens of Yeosu.
