Situé au pied ouest du mont Mudeungsan, le temple Jeungsimsa est représentatif de la ville de Gwangju. Construit par le moine bouddhiste Cheolgamseonsa Do Yun en l’an 517 durant la dynastie Silla, il fut rénové par un autre moine bouddhiste nommé Hyesoguksa en 1094 pendant la dynastie Goryeo et reconstruit pour la 3ème fois par Kim Bang en 1443 pendant la dynastie Joseon. Durant la guerre Imjinwaeran (invasion japonaise de 1592 à 1598), le temple fut brûlé et reconstruit une nouvelle fois en 1609 par 3 moines bouddhistes : Seokgyeong, Sujang, et Dogwang. Le temple a subi entre temps des modifications additionnelles avant d’être détruit une nouvelle fois par le feu pendant la guerre de Corée (1950-1953). La plupart des bâtisses, incluant Daeungjeon (l’immeuble principal), ont été rénovées dans les années 1970.

Les reliques du temple Jeungsimsa incluent un très grand nombre de biens culturels de valeur : Obaekjeon (la salle aux 500 arahants), Cheoljo Birojanabul Jwasang (une statue de Bouddha assis, classée comme patrimoine culturel) consacré dans le hall Birojeon (Saseongjeon), une pagode à 3étages de la période tardive de la dynastie Silla (Propriété culturelle de Gwangju n°1), le pavillon Beomjonggak, la pagode Beomja à 7 étages, gravée de Beomja (un ancien sanscrit indien) sur les 4 côtés de chaque étage.

Temple Chungjangsa commémorant le général Kim Deok-ryeong

Le temple Chungjangsa a été construit en 1975 pour commémorer le général Kim Deok-ryeong dont la ville natale se trouve près du mont Mudeungsan. Dans l'enceinte, vous trouverez, entre autres, le portrait de Kim Deok-ryeong alors que les ordres du roi donnés à ce général sont exposés sur le site. Parmi les autres reliques, on compte la salle des reliques, la porte Chungyongmun et la porte Ikhomun. Dans la salle des reliques sont exposés les vêtements du général Kim Deok-ryeong, désignés comme matériel folklorique important n° 111, ainsi que le cercueil et les documents manuscrits extraits de la tombe du général. La tombe et la pierre tombale de Kim Deok-ryeong ainsi que les tombes de sa famille sont installées sur la colline derrière le temple.

Le centre de Convention Kim Dae-jung est l'un des meilleurs bâtiments de la province du Jeollanam-do, il fut inauguré le 6 septembre 2005. Il fut nommé à l'origine Centre de Convention de Gwangju, mais fut renommé en 2000 suite lorsque le président Kim Dae-jung reçut le prix Nobel de la Paix. Le centre a abrité de nombreux événements d'envergure. En été de nombreuses personnes s'y rendent pour profiter des activités culturelles que l'on trouve à la fois à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur du bâtiment.

La foire des fleurs de printemps de Gwangju 2015 se tient du 27 mars au 5 avril au centre de conventions Kim Dae-jung autour du slogan « Pays de conte de fée empli du parfum des fleurs ». La première édition du festival date de 2007. Les visiteurs pourront y admirer quelques 200 000 fleurs printanières dans une vingtaine de jardins thématiques.
De nombreux évènements sont également prévus au programme, comme par exemple une initiation à la culture horticole ou encore des spectacles (théâtre de marionnettes, magie, contes pour enfants, danse, ocarina, etc).
