El monumento fue construido en 1914 en memoria del misionero Clemente Owen quien, junto al cura Bae Yoo-ji, fue el primer misionero cristiano en ir a la provincia de Jeollanam-do. Este edificio de estilo occidental, de una extensión de 434 metros cuadrados, ha sido utilizado como capilla y como sala de reuniones. Hoy en día se utiliza como auditorio de la facultad.
