El monte Hallasan se yergue bien alto en el medio de la isla Jeju y pertenece al Parque Nacional Geológico de Jeju. A esta montaña se la suele llamar también Yeongjusan, que significa: "suficientemente alto para jalar la galaxia". El monte Hallasan es ampliamente conocido por los estudiosos por su valor de investigación. Designado Parque Nacional en 1970, se desprenden 368 sierras volcánicas secundarias llamadas oreum que se extienden alrededor del  monte principal. Desde sus cálidos climas hasta los sectores de clima frío, el lugar es famoso por su ecosistema: 1.800 especies de plantas y 4.000 especies de animales (3.300 son especies de insectos); y gracias al bien desarrollado trayecto de ascenso, se puede observar con atención todo el panorama. El monte tiene una ruta de ascenso corto. Con menos de 10 km en longitud, es posible alcanzar la cumbre y regresar en un solo día; pero las condiciones meteorológicas cambian rápidamente y con frecuencia hace mucho viento, de modo que los visitantes deben prepararse muy bien antes de intentar el ascenso.

Blindada contra el viento por el pico Seoubong, ambos lados de la playa son muy tranquilos a pesar del cambio de dirección del viento, por lo que es el lugar ideal para practicar kayak. De hecho, practicar kayak con olas es también muy popular durante los días ventosos.
