Seowongyegok Valley (서원계곡)

Seowongyegok Valley is fed by the Samgacheon Stream, which originates from Songnisan Mountain and flows through Samga Reservoir in an S-shaped curve. It is relatively gentle in slope, and the stream is quite wide. The area is home to the 600-year-old Seowon-ri Pine Tree. Aside from enjoying the beautiful view of the area, one can also swim in the valley in summer.

Gubyeongsan Mountain (구병산)

Gubyeongsan Mountain is an 876 m-high mountain located on the southern side of Songnisan National Park. It is also known as "Gubongsan Mountain" because it is said to have nine (gu) peaks (bong). There is a lush forest with plenty of beautiful rocky cliffs. Visit in the fall to enjoy the true beauty of the place. Boeun’s basin geographical feature can be seen from the summit.

Samnyeongsanseong Fortress was built during the Silla dynasty. The sprawling stone walls stretch 1.7 kilometers in length with x_heights and x_widths of 13-20 and 8-10 meters respectively. The name of the fortress comes from the time it took to complete the construction, three years ("sam nyeon" in Korean). The fortress was the site of many battles between Silla and Baekje during the Three Kingdoms Period.

Hwayang Valley, located 32 kilometers east from Cheongju, was designated Songnisan National Park in 1975.
The vivid green mountains and clear waters make it a highly sought after tourist spot. The nearby Seonnyudonggyegok Valley, just 7 kilometers away, is also a huge draw for travelers.
Hwayang Valley is composed of various shaped rocks such as Cheomseongdae Observatory, Neungundae Observatory, Waryongam Rock and Eupgungam Rock. Well-known statesman from the Joseon Dynasty, Song Si-yeol, visited the valley and wept for King Hyojong offering his final bow. This rock where he cried was then named Eupgungam Rock meaning ‘crying bow’ Rock. Waryongam Rock gets its name from its shape, which is said to look like a wriggly dragon. Cheomseongdae Observatory was used in order to forecast weather patterns.

Filial Son Jung Jaesu Memorial Hall (효자 정재수 기념관)

Filial Son Jung Jaesu Memorial Hall was constructed to honor the bravery of Jung Jaesu, who died at the age of 10 while saving his father. The memorial hall opened on June 12, 2001 at the former Sasan Elementary School where Jung was a student.

In the Jung Jaesu Exhibition Room on the first floor, materials relating to Jung’s devotion are on display. In the Memorial Room on the second floor, various materials and works created by students are on display, as well as the classroom Jung studied in. The theater shows movies about devotion as well as Jung’s virtuous deed. The theater is also used for seminars and conferences.

Seonyudonggyegok Valley is located in Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Province. Including Seonyudongmun, the playground for the mountain gods, a total of nine valleys form the area: Gyeongcheonbyeok, Haksoam, Yeondallo, Waryongpok, Nangadae, Gigugam, Guam, and Eunseonam.

Seonnyudonggyegok Valley is famous for the legend that mountain gods came to savor fresh mountain spring water. A renowned geographical account, Taekriji, published in 1751, stated that Seonyudonggyegok Valley boasted some of the best scenery. One of the most eminent Confucian scholars of the Joseon dynasty, Lee Hwang spent nine months in this beautiful valley. He gave names to all his favorite places, which still remain to this day.

Yongchugyegok Valley is considered the most majestic among the eight scenic views of Mungyeong.
