L'île des camélias jouxte la plage Haeundae sur la droite. En réalité il s'agit davantage d'une presqu'île recouverte de végération et offrant de très beaux panoramas depuis les hauteurs. Son nom 'île des camélias' vient du fait que cette partie de terre était autrefois une véritable île détachée du territoire, mais le temps a finalement opéré une jointure entre les deux parties. Le nom d'île des camélias a tout de même été préservé.

Le lieu fut également un endroit de promenade et d'inspiration pour de nombreux poétes et écrivains en Corée dont Choi Chi-won.
La presqu'île abrite plusieurs chemins de promenade, une mystérieuse sculpture d'une sirène dans la mer, le bâtiment APEC Nurimaru, etc. Le lieu est aussi très prisé pour ses fleurs entre l'hiver et le printemps. Le lieu offre une vue imprenable sur la baie de Busan.

Au large du littoral sud où poussent les camélias, il existe beaucoup d’îles qui portent le nom Dongbaek, « camélia ». Parmi elles, l’île camélia de Busan est aujourd’hui partiellement reliée à la terre.
C’est une très petite île sur laquelle les camélias et les sapins abondent. Au sommet de l’île, se dressent la statue et le monument commémoratif de Chiwon Choi (BC 57 ~ AC 935), le grand savant et homme de lettre de Silla.
La ville de Busan a déclaré l’île Dongbaek site commémoratif numéro 46. Sur l’île se trouve le parc Dongbaek. Près de la plage, une statue d'une sirène de 2,5 mètres joue un rôle de repère pour les visiteurs de Haeundae.
