Uiseong Soudang House was originally built by Lee Ga-bal (pen-name: Sou) in the early nineteenth century. The house has the characteristic structure of a hanok, although its overall ‘ㅁ’-shape was modified into a ‘ㄷ’-shape after the small sarangbang was damaged by a typhoon few years ago. The house features a moderately high foundation stone and moderate construction materials, corresponding to traditional Confucian principles. However, entering the side door in the west, one can see a different aspect of the house. In general, the gardens of hanok built during the Joseon period didn’t have a fence in order to preserve the natural environment, but they often had a small pavilion next to a small stream. However, thanks to the founder’s wealth, Soudang House featured a new style of garden in which a separate house with a wall and a pond was built and sun trees from China were planted. The byeolchae (separate house) is focused on its role as a residence, having several rooms, unlike others that are usually emphasized on its maru (wooden floor). It is thought that the main users of the byeolchae were the owners rather than male guests. Recently, work on the interior of the byeolchae was completed to accommodate guests. The anchae and sarangchae have also been renovated with modern bathrooms and toilets for guests’ convenience.

Valle Binggye (빙계계곡)

En Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, hay una montaña llamada Bingsan. El río que pasa por ella se llama Binggye y la aldea cercana Binggye-ri. En este misterioso valle, puede encontrar increíbles formaciones de hielo durante el calor del verano y un aire cálido en pleno invierno. Acantilados se levantan frente la aldea y fascinantes piedras se pueden encontrar a lo largo del curso del río. En el valle también se encuentra una pagoda de cinco plantas (8,15 metros) del período Goryeo.

Festival de las Flores de Cornejo de Uiseong (의성 산수유마을 꽃맞이행사)

El Festival de Flores de Cornejo de Uiseong se celebra en la Aldea Sansuyu en Sagok-myeon, Uiseong-gun, de la provincia Gyeongsangbuk-do. Hay preparados toda una serie de eventos como actuaciones de nongak (música tradicional coreana interpretada por los campesinos), concursos de canto y de escritura.
