The Literary Village of Kim You Jeong was established on the site of the birth home of Kim, in order to commemorate Kim You-jeong who left various great short story novels of Korea’s modern times, such as Spring, Spring (1935), and Camellia Flower (1936). It was opened in 2002, consisting of the Birth Home of Kim You-jeong, Memorial Hall, foot-operated mortar, etc. Then, in 2016, various facilities, such as Kim You-jeong’s Story House, outdoor stage, experience room, and Nangman Nuri were additionally built across the Literary Village of Kim You-jeong. The current birth home with the square-shaped structure, which is the typical hanok (traditional Korean house) style, was restored according to historical research by Kim’s relatives and students. The Memorial Hall provides information and displays artifacts related to Kim You-jeong’s life and works. Kim You-jeong’s Story House shows three-dimensional exhibits and videos related to his works and life. Various sculptures made with the themes of Kim’s short story novels are placed throughout its outside area. It is recommended to walk along the Sille Story Road after visiting the Literary Village. The Sille Story Road is a trail, which is a literature tour, consisting of the places that appeared in Kim’s novels with the background of his hometown.

Gongjicheon Sculpture Park (공지천 조각공원)

Originally named Gongji Park, the park is located near Gongjicheon Stream and has been decorated with sculptures since 1997. Twenty-nine pieces are displayed and a water clock was installed in 2001. Gongjicheon Resort is located nearby the park with an outdoor stage and fountain. Water sports such as boat-riding can be enjoyed on the lake. The lake and the fountain are great locations to spend time with family and friends. Every year diverse cultural art events such as the Spring Art Performance as well as the Soyangjae Chuncheon Poetry Recital take place in the park and Gongjicheon area. A Children’s Center and War Memorial are also located nearby.

Cheongpyeong Lake (청평호반)

Cheongpyeong Lake is an artificial lake that was formed with the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in the Bukhangang River. Surrounding mountains and lake landscapes blend together harmoniously creating breathtaking views and is fast becoming a choice destination in Korea.

Near Cheongpyeong Lake there is an amusement park as well as numerous summer homes. On the nearby lake, one can enjoy water skiing and a host of other recreations. Chuncheon Folk Flea Market, which is 5 min walk from Namchuncheon Station, is located below the Gyeongchun Line railway bridge connecting Namchuncheon Station with Chuncheon Station. The market was originally built over the covered Yaksacheon Stream, but with the ecosystem restoration project of the Yaksacheon Stream, the market was relocated to the current position at the end of 2010. It covers a distance of about 700 m and is packed with some 140 stores. It also holds its fifth-day market (opened every five days on dates of the month whose last digit is the 2nd or 7th). On the opening days of the fifth-day market, it is filled with various kinds of street stalls selling farming products, fresh fish and seafood, snacks, and miscellaneous goods. Visitors can also try diverse dishes, including Gangwon-do’s local dishes such as buckwheat pancake, buckwheat crepes, and red chili paste pancake, and other dishes such as spicy stir-fried chicken, raw meat dish, and noodle soup. The nighttime market opens Friday to Sunday from spring to autumn.
