Se trata de una antigua fortaleza que se ubica tanto en terreno plano como montañoso. Fue levantada hacia finales de la dinastía Goryo y principios de Joseon y jugó un rol importante defensivo durante las invasiones japonesas de la Guerra de Imjin en 1592. Después de la guerra, la fortaleza fue abandonada hasta su restauración en 1731, que también incluyó una ampliación.
