El área de la puerta Seosomun fue un lugar de persecución religiosa en el siglo XIX, antes de convertirse en el parque local actual. Muchos católicos fueron reprimidos y martirizados aquí, convirtiendo este lugar en un sitio sagrado para los catolicos coreanos.
