Backam Springs Hotel in the Baegam Hot Springs Special Tourist Zone in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do has a long history. It began as an inn with the same name in 1930, and descendants of the original owner of the inn rebuilt the inn and named it "Baekcheon Hotel" and today's "Baeam Springs Hotel." A number of popular tourist attractions such as Wolsongjeon Pavilion, Manghyangjeong Pavilion, and Seongnyugul Cave are within a 30-minute walk from the hotel. There is also a great hiking trail leading to Baegamsan Mountain right behind the hotel. The most popular destination among hikers and tourists visiting the area is Sinseon Valley, where nature is well-preserved. The hotel has various types and sizes of Korean- and Western-style guestrooms for guests to choose from according to their needs and budget. The hotel has a spa using natural alkaline hot spring water at 50℃. The water also contains radium, which is good for the autonomic nervous system, heart, and liver as well as for stroke patients.

At the Baegam Hot Springs Special Tourist Zone, visitors can enjoy both the lush mountain terrain of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range and the magnificent scenery of the East Sea.

The hot springs of Baegam are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region and are visited by travelers from across the nation. The water temperature reaches as high as 53 degrees Celsius and contains various minerals and elements, including a strong alkaline content. This makes the water effective in treating neuralgia, arthritis and apoplexy. Recently, it was reported that the water is also beneficial for those with atopic dermatitis, thereby attracting the elderly and families. Recreational facilities for children are also available.

The hot springs are located at the foot of the 1,004-meter-high Baegamsan Mountain. The mountain trails lead to Yeongyang and Bonghwa and are frequented by hikers. Densely covered with pine trees, the mountain also has plenty of deep valleys. Sinseon Valley, where, according to legend a dragon once lived, has an abundance of water flowing in different directions.

In the vicinity are Jukbyeon Port and Hupo Port, which are known for snow crabs, and Mangyangjeong Pavilion and Wolsongjeong Pavilion where one can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea.

The Baegam Hot Springs area was recognized as a special tourist zone on December 31, 1979 as the only natural sulfur hot spring in Korea to have alkaline water containing radium. Baegam Hot Springs’ soft and transparent water is known for its therapeutic effects against neuralgia, chronic arthritis, and arterial sclerosis. The water is at a steady 53℃, the perfect temperature for the body. The resort also offers billiards, table tennis, a gaming arcade and more for a fun famiily retreat. Nearby attractions include Baegamsan Mountain and beaches on the east coast.

The Baegamsan Mountains are also known as the ‘White Rock Mountains’, since their peaks are covered in white-coloured rocks. These mountains are also famous for receiving plenty of snow during the winter season. If you hike up to the mountain peak early in the morning, you may catch a glimpse of the gorgeous sunrise over the East Sea. The hiking trail starts from in front of the Baegam Hot Springs Hotel. Hikers follow the southern ridges and continue through the pine tree forests to reach the top of the mountain. From the top of the mountain, you can admire beautiful views of the East Sea and the tall mountains that stretch to the west and the north. Below the peaks are the Gomosanseong Fortress, Halmaesanseong Fortress, and Baegamsanseong Fortress.

Yeongyang Birch Forest was established in 1993 in the Jukpa-ri region of Geommasan Mountain. It boasts a scenic path meandering through the white birch tree trunks and a canopy of lush green leaves. The trail's gentle slope ensures a comfortable walk. Two different walking trails are available for visitors. Trail 1 is a 1.5 km journey beginning at the wooden bridge and culminating at the observatory deck. Trail 2, slightly longer at 1.52 km, starts from the first picnic area and also leads to the observatory deck.

The 250-meter-long Hupo Beach is situated right by Hupohang Port. The combination of an expansive sandy beach and indigo blue waters of the East Sea creates a splendid view, drawing a large number of vacationers in the summer.

Hupohang Port is the main receiving and distributing port for fish caught in the East Sea. In the early morning, the port offers a great chance to not only see fish being hauled from boats to the fish market, but also to purchase fresh raw fish at an affordable price. On the hill north of Hupo Beach stands Hupo Lighthouse where one can get an unobstructed view of the East Sea and the Uljin area. Hupo Beach is one of the few beaches offering a splendid view of both the port and the lighthouse.

Uljin-gun’s southern most port of Hupohang has beautiful seaside scenery throughout the four seasons. Almost all of the fish caught in the East Sea can be seen at Hupohang Port. On the hill behind the port is the Hupo Lighthouse, which lights the waters for boats coming in at night, and its observatory provides a great view over the East sea during the day. Also, children’s playground and rest area are situated on top of the hill next to the lighthouse. On the opposite side of the hill, visitors can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the 1,004-meter tall Baekamsan Mountain.

At dawn, visitors can tour Hupohang Park and look at the many freshly caught fish. Visitors can also buy fresh fish at extremely low prices. Furthermore, the Hupohang Port is known for its numerous raw fish restaurants and the hot springs are located nearby as well.

This festival celebrates Uljin's famous local specialty, snow crabs. It is the biggest local festival in the region with a goal to promote the excellency of Uljin snow crabs through a variety of events.
