Hahoe Yangjindang, in Hahoe Village in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is the head house of the Ryu Clan of Pungsan. Also known as Ipam Old House, it’s a designated national cultural treasure. An unusual feature is the incorporation of two different architectural styles: the sarangchae is in the Goryeo style, while the anchae is in the Joseon style. The rooms are simple and elegant, with antique mother-of-pearl cupboards, tableware cabinets, and ceramics placed here and there add to the old-time charm. Guests can enjoy traditional folk games, or have a go at home-brewing or making rice cakes and sweets.

Pungsongjae is a Hanok stay made from high-quality Korean red pines from Bonghwa located in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do. While retaining the traditional elegance of Hanok, each room is equipped with a bathroom for added convenience. As soon as you enter the gate, you are greeted by a wide-open grassy lawn, and the numaru (balcony-style raised veranda), Punsongjae's central space, offers a panoramic view of the pine grove beyond the antique Hanok building and wall. Garam Choyeonjae stands within Hahoe Traditional Village in a loop of the beautiful Nakdonggang River in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Among Hahoe’s tile-roofed old houses, this one’s thatched roof stands out. ‘Garam’ was the pen name of the owner’s grandfather - a descendant of the Joseon scholar Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong - while ‘Choyeonjae’ means a thatched house where swallows live. The swallows’ nest is still there under the eaves, and sunset views from the wooden terrace of the sarangchae (men’s house) are a dreamy experience. Visitors can also learn about traditional technologies such as treadmills and millstones.

Damyeonjae (담연재)

Damyeonjae is a hanok accommodation located in Hahoe Village, Andong. It was built in the 1980s but faithfully implemented the appearance of a traditional hanok. The chimney rising behind the yard and the tiles which line the roof are excellent enough to be considered a cultural asset, and the wood used for the beams and the cheongmaru is also very luxurious. Uniquely, it was built in a 'c' shape with the gate and haengnangchae moved to the edge of the yard, rather than a square shape like the traditional hanok in the Gyeongsang region. Thanks to the open view to the south, the entire Andong Hahoe Village and Hwasan Mountain can be viewed from the yard. Damyeonjae is the home of Korean actor Ryu Si-won, and his is known to have spent his childhood here. In 1999, Queen Elizabeth II of England experienced Korean culture and received a 73rd birthday award here, making it even more famous. Damyeonjae is currently operated as a hanok stay where only one group can stay each day. The kitchen and bathroom are modernly decorated to add convenience.

Mansodang is a newly built hanok stay in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, that retains the style and beauty of a hanok while adding the conveniences of a modern house. The hanok’s inner walls are finished with red clay, the outer walls with white clay, and the floors with Jeonju hanji and natural lacquer, applied by lacquer master artisan Kim Yong-gyeom; it’s said that Mansodang is his masterpiece. Sunseong Susang-gil Waterway is a 1-kilometer-long floating pathway that connects Sunseonghyeon Culture Complex with Andong Lakeside Park. Because the pathway floats on the water, it rocks with each step one takes, creating the feeling of truly walking on water. At the halfway point of the waterway is an exhibition of black-and-white photos and materials from Yean Elementary School, lost to the formation of the lake following the construction of Andong Dam in 1974.

Jeongjae Head House (정재종택)

Jeongjae Head House is the head house of Joseon scholar Jeongjae Ryu Chi-myeong, a colleague of the famous Toegye Lee Hwang. The house overlooks Imha Lake in Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and is 300 years old. The long endurance of the stone foundations, roof tiles and wooden beams and porch gives the place a solid, calming feel. The house consists of a daemunchae (gate house) jeongchim (square-shaped building), haengnangchae (servants’ quarters), sadang or shrine, and a pavilion called Manujeong which houses a lecture hall but can also be used for lodging. Guests can learn how to brew songhwaju spirit and tarak fermented milk liquor, and listen to gayageum or folk song performances.

Suaedang House in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was built in 1939 by independence activist Soo Ae Yu Jin-geol, and is a Gyeongsangbuk-do cultural asset. The hipped-and-gabled pavilion and the ㄱ-shaped gobangchae (female servants’ quarters) face each other across the courtyard, and the house has a 10-metre lofty gate. Suaedang was moved to its current location in 1987 due to the construction of the Imha Dam. The room and Daecheongmaru are red clay-walled and natural painted. The view of the lake from Suaecang is very beautiful.
