Café Badabom is located between Tongyeong Port and Gangguan Port. It is famous for its ocean view and milk ice cream. The 1st to 4th floors of the cafe are all made of glass on one side, perfect for viewing the sea of Tongyeong and the night view. The signature menu here is milk ice cream and “Sokongsokong.” Customers can order the milk ice cream either in cone or cup according to their preference. Furthermore, customers who opt for a cone can also choose between a cookie cone and a waffle cone. Sokongsokong is served on soboru ppang (Korean streusel bun) topped with milk ice cream, soybean powder, and almonds. Most of the seats face the window, making it an excellent place to chat and relax while looking at the sea.

Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival (통영한산대첩축제)

The Great Battle of Hansan was a war in which Admiral Yi Sun-sin and his naval forces fought against the Japanese and won a great victory off Hansando Island in Tongyeong. The Great Battle of Hansan Festival commemorates the victory and Yi’s spirit of patriotism. The festival reenacts the Samdo (Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang Provinces) naval guard changing ceremony and inspection, as well as the navy personnel’s march and training. The Turtle Ship and local fishing boats are set afloat off Hansando Island, lining up in the shape of a crane’s wing, which was the famous military tactic of the Great Battle. Visitors can enjoy a splendid view of fireworks over the dark sea and join in the Turtle Ship rowing competition, a popular activity that requires team effort.

Tongyeong Lighthouse Fishing Park is a bridge-shaped fishing facility, conveniently situated near the Donam Tourist Complex in Tongyeong. It was established in 2006 when Tongyeong was selected as a pilot site for the Marine Fishing Park project initiated by Gyeongsangnam-do. Known as an ideal spot for sea fishing, it offers stunning views of the Hallyeo National Marine Park. Dadama Haemul Ttukbaegi is the pride of Tongyeong and a famous restaurant where visitors can eat seafood to their heart's content. The representative menu is haemul ttukbaegi (seafood hot pot), a dish that uses spicy red pepper powder seasoning for the spicy taste and seafood broth cooked in ttukbaegi (thick earthen pot used for hot stew or soup) with scallops, abalone, crabs, and octopus. The restaurant offers three menu sets of A, B, and C, allowing visitors to taste various dishes to suit their taste. Set A features Tongyeong's fresh seafood menu and mainly consists of haemul ttukbaegi, grilled fish, bajirak muchim (clam salad), and meonggae bibimbap (sea pineapple bibimbap); Set B consists of haemul ttukbaegi and grilled fish; and Set C mainly features anchovy dishes. They also use seasonal ingredients, like oysters in winter.

Chungnyeolsa Shrine in Tongyeong is dedicated to Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a national hero whose naval victories were crucial in repelling Japanese invasions of Korea in the 1590s. The shrine complex includes Dongjae and Seojae, where ritual ceremonies are prepared; a main shrine housing his spirit tablet and portrait; and an exhibit hall showcasing artifacts related to the Japanese Invasion of 1592. Rituals honoring the Admiral continue to be held every spring and fall to this day.

Tongyeong Cable Car installed on Mireuksan Mountain in Tongyeong is 1,975 meters long, and a bi-cable automatic circulation gondola system was installed using the latest Swiss technology. At an average speed of 4 meters per second, it takes about 9 minutes to reach the upper station, circulating a total of 48 gondolas that consist of 47 passenger gondolas and 1 cargo gondola. The cable car implemented an eco-friendly design and has only one intermediate support with the aim of protecting the environment while providing a comfortable ride for passengers. In addition, the 8-person gondolas operate non-stop, allowing passengers to board without delay and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Korea’s beautiful ocean in privacy with their loved ones. Mireukdo Island is located in Tongyeong, a city that holds great historical significance for being the home of the Tongjeyeong naval station during the Joseon dynasty. The Tongyeong base served as the central command station for the three other naval bases in the Gyeongsang, Jeolla and Chungcheong regions.

Not only is Mireukdo Island designated as a Special Tourist Zone, it is also a part of the Hallyeohaesang National Park and serves as the center of tourism in the South Coast. The Mireukdo Special Tourist Zone, with the Donam Tourist Complex as its core, is well-equipped with a variety of leisure facilities, tourist accommodations and restaurants. This district caters to visitors with yacht services and a variety of water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking and water skiing. Exceptionally popular is the ferry cruise that takes visitors to Hansando Island, which is located just off the coast of Tongyeong, and to the other scenic islands such as Bijindo and Maemuldo.

Mireukdo Island is connected to Tongyeong through an undersea tunnel, Chungmu Bridge and Tongyeong Bridge, making it even more accessible to visitors. At the center of the island is the towering Mireuksan Mountain. The panoramic Hallyeosudo Viewing Ropeway, which opened in 2008, takes visitors to the summit of Mireuksan Mountain. The top offers a commanding view of the forests and valleys below. On a clear day, visitors can even see the Japanese island of Tsushima. The mountain’s hiking trails are well-maintained and are suitable for short hikes. The most traveled trail is the one starting from Yonghwasa Temple. Hikers taking this trail pass through Gwaneumsa Temple and Mireukjae Pass to reach the top. The trail leads to Miraesa Temple and a grass field on the way down before finally going back to Yonghwasa Temple.
