El monte Namsan de Gyeongju está situado al sur de esta ciudad, que en la antigüedad era un sitio religioso y de suma importancia para la población del reino de Silla. Los picos más altos son el pico Geumobong (468 m) y el pico Gouibong (494 m), de los cuales brotan las aguas que recorren aproximadamente 40 valles y distintas cordilleras que forman la montaña. Observada desde arriba, presenta una forma ovalada y su extensión más al sur hace que la montaña se vea como un triángulo rectángulo.

La ladera de la parte oeste de la montaña es el lugar que dio paso a la leyenda de Bak Hyeokgeosae, el primer rey de Silla; y el patio Poseokjeong es el sitio trágico donde empezó la caída de la milenaria ciudad. Al este de la montaña, se encuentran distintas estatuas de Buda como Borisa Seokbuljwasang, la roca Bulmusa de Buda, etc; y al sur hay 12 tesoros nacionales como Chilbulam Maeseokbul, 12 sitios históricos como el patio Poseokjeong, Najeong, 9 patrimonios culturales locales y 1 importante legado histórico.

No solo sus ruinas y patrimonios sorprenden a los visitantes, sino también los senderos variados y los hermosos paisajes creados por diferentes valles y rocas, que son otro de los encantos que presenta la montaña. Muchos turistas elogian este tesoro diciendo “Para conocer Gyeongju, hay que subir primero el monte Namsan”. Por ello, este monte es considerado como el punto de origen del antiguo reino de Silla, que permitió unir la naturaleza y las creencias religiosas para crear una cultura milenaria única.

El templo Bunhwangsa fue construido durante en el año 634, durante el tercer año de reinado de la Reina Seondeok, 27ª monarca de la Dinastía Silla. Los prominentes monjes budistas Wonhyo y Jajang residieron en este templo.

Al tener una larga historia, este templo albergaba muchas reliquias históricas, pero la mayoría se han perdido debido a las invasiones mongolas y japonesas. Se conservan la Torre de Piedra Mojeon, Hwajaengguksabibu (piedra memorial de Wonhyo, renombrado monje budista de la dinastía Silla), Samnyongbyeoneojeong (manantial en el que según una leyenda residían los tres dragones que protegían el Reino de Silla), y los pilares Danggan.

La Torre de Piedra Mojeon, registrada como Tesoro Nacional N° 30, alcanza una altura de 9,3 metros, y fue construida usando bloques de andesita. Aunque se piensa que la torre tenía 7 o 9 niveles, hoy en día se conservan tan solo 3. Los pilares Danggan, dos pilares de piedra de 3,6 metros de altura, están situados en la entrada del templo. Danggan se refiere a los mástiles hechos de madera, metal o piedra, que se usaban para colgar las banderas que indicaban los festivales budistas para que se enterasen incluso las personas que vivían lejos. Los pilares están soportados por tortugas de piedra, una característica poco común. También hay estatuas de Buda que se exponen en el Museo Nacional de Gyeongju y que fueron encontradas en un pozo situado 30 metros al norte del muro posterior del templo Bunhwangsa.

This hanok (traditional Korean house) is located very near to Cheomseongdae Observatory. Its location in front of the Gyeongju Historic Areas allows guests to reach major sights in Gyeongju like Daereungwon Ancient Tomb Complex, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and Hwangnidan-gil Street by foot. This hanok symbolizes the historicity of the city of Gyeongju in that during its construction a female skeleton and accessories made out of precious metals were excavated from the site. The accommodation’s name comes from the idiom “Muwijayeon (leaving nature as it is),” combining bamboo and pine trees with green grass, show its dedication to ideals of rest and philosophy.
There are five rooms in total, all ondol (under-the-floor heating system) rooms for two. Korean paper lining the walls and old-fashioned furniture speak to the ideal beauty of hanok. The raised floor space, which is attached to the “Munmu” room, is a great place to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. All rooms have modern bathrooms with shower facilities, and a complimentary breakfast is served in the cafe on site from 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning. The complex has abundant parking spaces for the guests.

This hanok (traditional Korean house) is located at the center of Hanok Conservation Area, known as Hwangnidan-gil Street. To the north lies the old alley that connects to Cheomseongdae Observatory. The house has sarangchae building, byeolchae building, and main building, which is used as a gallery and café, surrounding the grass lawn in the center. All rooms are equipped with ondol (under-the-heating system) and a red clay finish, and each room has a bathroom with shower facilities.
Sarangchae is a two-story hanok building with a hipped-and-gable roof. Its first floor is occupied by a double room and a family room, which can support up to 4 people. Byeolchae is a single-floor hanok with a gable roof, containing two double rooms and a raised floor space. The main building’s gallery contains a hanok experience room, cafe, restaurant, and a traditional tea room. A Korean-style breakfast is offered in the cafe, and the management also offers experience programs like tea ceremony, traditional games like yunnori (board game), and traditional musical instruments like janggo (hourglass-shaped drums) and gayageum (twelve-stringed zither).

Nadeul Hanok was opened in 2018 with brand-new facilities, in a location just a minute’s walk from Cheomseongdae Observatory in Gyeongju. You can feel a sense of healing in nature in the traditional style house, built in environment-friendly construction method with wood and earth. The ‘ㄷ’-shaped building creates a snug atmosphere and the hipped-and-gable roof and the curves of the roof tile show the traditional quiet and still flavor of a traditional Korean house. There are 7 rooms in Nadeul Hanok. Among them, the Garam, Gayeon, and Nuri Rooms are offered at 50,000 won for 2 persons during off-season so that visitors can enjoy staying in a traditional Korean house at more affordable prices. All rooms are equipped with a bathroom for better convenience and there is an individual thermostat all year round. Complimentary breakfast made of healthy convenience food is offered to all guests. The menu is composed of barley bread, fruit, coffee, juice, boiled egg, and biscuit, and is subject to change according to situation. What is good is that the breakfast can be delivered to the room if the delivery time is requested during breakfast time, which is from 8 to 9 AM. It is possible to look around the tourist attractions near Nadeul Hanok on foot. In addition, there are CVs, fast food shops, bike rental shops, and hanbok rental shops adjacent to Nadeul Hanok, enabling a more convenient and joyful tour.

Designado como Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la Unesco en noviembre del 2000, es una zona histórica que conserva toda la historia y cultura de Gyeongju, la antigua capital de Silla (57-935). Se clasifican en un total de 5 áreas históricas.

La primera es la zona de Namsan, la cuna del arte budista de Silla. Considerado un museo al aire libre sin paredes, es un lugar en donde persiste el espíritu de Silla, y reúne 37 reliquias budistas; el pabellón Poseokjeong (Sitio Histórico Nº 1), la roca Tapgok Maaejosanggun (Tesoro Nº 201 – figuras budistas grabadas en roca), la pagoda de tres pisos de piedra del templo Cheonryongsa (Tesoro Nº 1188), la roca Chilburam Maaeseokbul (Tesoro Nº 200 - figuras budistas grabadas en roca), la roca Bulgok Seokbuljwasang (Tesoro Nº 198), etc.

La segunda es la zona de Wolseong, sitio en donde estaban los palacios de la dinastía milenaria de Silla. Se encuentran en esta área el bosque Gyerim (Sitio Histórico Nº 19), el sitio de la sala Imhaejeon, y el mejor observatorio de Asia “Cheomseongdae” (Tesoro Nacional Nº 31).

La tercera es la zona Daereungwon, el complejo de tumbas reales, los pertenecientes a los reyes, reinas y miembros de la nobleza. Durante su proceso de excavación se han encontrado coronas, pinturas de caballos míticos, variedad de cerámica, etc., entre otras reliquias que han servido como base de estudio histórico.

La cuarta es la zona en donde se encontraba instalado el famoso templo “Hwangnyongsa” (Sitio Histórico Nº 246). Y por último, la quinta zona, es el lugar en donde se establecía la fortaleza Myeonghwalsanseong (Sitio Histórico Nº 47), que se presume que fue construído hace 400 años. Estas áreas históricas de Gyeongju, designadas como Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la Unesco, comprenden un total de 52 patrimonios culturales.
