Fortaleza Gwangseongbo (광성보)

La muralla exterior de la Fortaleza Gwangseongbo fue construida durante el período de Goryeo, en 1618. Más adelante, en 1656, culminó su construcción. Fue completamente remodelada como un castillo de mampostería en 1745. Durante Sinmiyanggyo (invasión estadounidense en 1871), Gwangseongbo fue el campo de batalla más duro de Ganghwa. El 24 de abril de 1871, una flota con 1.230 fuerzas navales estadounidenses dirigidas por el contraalmirante John Rodgers atracó en la isla de Ganghwado para exigir la apertura de los puertos y el comercio de Corea. Las fuerzas armadas atacaron la Fortaleza Chojijin y el Campo Deokjijin y se dirigieron a la Fortaleza Gwangseongbo, donde se enfrentaron a un duro combate con los guerreros de Joseon. Aunque el general Eo Jae-yeon y otros guerreros estaban mínimamente equipados con armas muy inferiores, lucharon valientemente a muerte contra las fuerzas invasoras.

Las ruinas del campo de batalla de la fortaleza y las puertas torre como Anhaeru, Gwangseongdon, Sondolmokdon y Yongdudon fueron reparadas en 1977. Las tumbas del general Eo Jae-Yeon y su hermano Eo Jeo-seon, junto con tumbas anónimas de los guerreros que lucharon en el combate, fueron dispuestas honorablemente en el mismo tiempo. Además, un monumento de piedra conmemorando la restauración del campo de batalla de Ganghwa fue erigido en Yongdudondae.

En 1988, una extensa zona de descanso fue creada hacia la costa a conveniencia de los visitantes. La Fortaleza Gwangseongbo ha sido designado Sitio Histórico. Un servicio religioso conocido como Gwangseongje se celebra cada año para conmemorar el espíritu patriótico del general Eo Jae-Yeon y otros guerreros.
