Le Village Hanok de Bukchon était autrefois un village où résidaient les aristocrates au cours de la dynastie Joseon. Certaines des maisons aux toits de tuiles appelées giwas ont été préservées jusqu'à nos jours.

Situé entre le palais Gyeongbokgung, le palais Changdeokgung et le sanctuaire Jongmyo, le Village Hanok de Bukchon est vieux de 600 ans. Ce village préservé se tient entre deux grands palais, dans un quartier historiquement important.
C'est aujourd'hui un bon endroit pour se faire une idée de la vie à l'époque de la dynastie Joseon, où se trouvent un centre culturel et des restaurants aménagés dans des maisons traditionnelles.

Les quartiers Wonseo-dong, Jae-dong, Gahoe-dong et Insa-dong se trouvent tous au nord de la rivière Cheonggyecheon et de Jongno, ils forment donc Bukchon, qui signifie 'village du nord', un endroit qui abritait la résidence de la famille royale et les hauts dignitaires de la cour.

Il est à noter que le village est habité par des résidents, il convient de visiter les lieux dans les créaneaux de visite dédiés. Les visites en groupe sont uniquement autorisées avec un guide. Le stationnement illégal des bus et autres grands véhicules de tourisme est strictement contrôlé. L'accès aux propriétés privées est également strictement surveillé.

Myeongdong Yeongyang Center is a 52 year-old specialty restaurant in Myeongdong. It specializes in samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and tongdak (roasted chicken). In 1960, Yeongyang Center has started to sell tongdak roasted on an electric rotisserie. Since then, the crisp and not-at-all greasy taste has attracted popularity among local Koreans and it has become a must-visit restaurant among foreign tourists. They use chickens provided by directly owned chicken farm and the owner of the restaurant thoroughly manages all the process of cooking even from the ingredients preparation level.
Their main menus are samgyetang and tongdak. The Samgyetang features its tender meat and thick broth after boiling for 2 hours and the tongdak features crispy and not-fatty taste of the well-drained chicken. Among the menus, sansam Samgyetang stuffed with wild ginseng powder is the most be-loved menu.
