Jeongdongjin Station is known as the train station located closest to the ocean in the nation. Built in 1962, the area had as many as 5,000 people during the mining period, but decreased into a small fishing village of under 2,000 after the government's coal industry reform policies went into action. In the early 1990s the train rarely stopped at the station due to minimal passengers, but it gained popularity after appearing in the drama “Sandglass (1995)” and is also widely famous for its sunrise view. The Sunrise Train, a six-hour course from Cheongnyangni Station to Jeongdongjin Station, was added to accommodate more visitors. Other attractions nearby include Jeongdongjin Beach, hourglass tree and more.

Chodang Gelato Dokkaebi Branch is a gelateria and a cafe located right in front of Jumunjin Breakwater, the filming site of the popular Korean drama “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016).” It has a rotating selection of flavors centered around its signature menu item soft bean curd, and milk gelato. One can also have two different flavors in a cup. The interior is full of cups with cutesy characters and markers that one can use to draw on them. Second-floor seats are quite popular because they overlook Yeongjinhaebyeon Beach. Jumunjin Breakwater was made famous as the filming site of the show “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016).” Serving as the backdrop of the two leads’ fateful first meeting, the breakwater still retains its beautiful scenery. Many visitors recreate the scene from their favorite show here.
The breakwater itself is divided into the east and the west parts. The eastern breakwater is 1 kilometer, while the western breakwater is 200 meters long. One can fish for plaice from spring to September, while spotty belly greenling, spipefish, and rockfish can be found in October. From December to March, grey mullet and big-scaled redfin become the main species caught here. The best season to fish here is between October and March.
