Las islas flotantes Some Sevit, situadas cerca de la parte sur del puente Banpodaegyo, son las primeras islas artificiales de Corea que flotan en la superficie del río Hangang. Las islas se componen de tres islotes flotantes: Vista, Viva y Terra. El tamaño total es de 9.629 ㎡ (9.995 ㎡ incluyendo los puentes que conectan los islotes).

El primer islote, Vista, tiene la forma de una flor. Es un lugar cultural multifunción que puede ser usado como sede para actuaciones, conferencias internacionales, exhibiciones y otros eventos. El segundo islote, Viva, parece un capullo de flor, y alberga eventos como Beat Square, Youth Woods y restaurantes 3D. El tercer islote, Terra, tiene la forma de una semilla y cuenta con instalaciones para deportes náuticos y un jardín exterior desde el que se puede disfrutar del entorno del río Hangang.

Este lugar se inauguró, por primera vez, en el año 1934, con el nombre de “Teatro Nacional de Myeongdong”, y funcionó como cine, centro de espectáculos artísticos, etc., hasta el año 1973. Ejerció así un papel primordial en la industria cultural y artística de Corea. Sin embargo, cerró en 1975.

Recientemente, tras una remodelación, el teatro volvió a abrir sus puertas, destinado solo a obras teatrales. Su interior está diseñado de forma circular, y se ha disminuido la distancia del escenario a la platea. Hyundai Kalguksu is a kalguksu (handmade knife-cut noodles) restaurant that has been in the family for two generations (1982). The restaurant is extremely popular among people working at nearby businesses, thanks to the rich flavor of the broth. Anchovies, dried pollack heads, and kelp are simmered for many hours, and then, other ingredients are added: soft noodles and various vegetables including pumpkin, onion, and green onions. The restaurant is famous for the exquisite taste of its kalguksu, as well as for its large servings. Just one bowl is enough to satisfy a starving man, but if you are still hungry, don’t hesitate to ask for more rice or noodles for free. Another unforgettable specialty here is kimchi. You will also be able to enjoy geotjeori (freshly made kimchi) and kkakdugi (sliced white-radish kimchi), which is fermented for about three days.

Iglesia Católica Yakhyeon de Seúl (서울 약현성당)

La Iglesia Católica Yakhyeon fue fundada como consecuencia de la libertad religiosa proclamada en el 23º año de reinado de Gojong (1866) y su subsiguiente incremento de la población católica. En 1891, el padre jefe de la Catedral Católica de Myeongdong, llamado Doucet, preparó un terreno en Hap-dong. El vicearzobispo Coste estuvo a cargo del diseño y construcción, y finalmente el edificio fue completado en 1892. El nombre de la iglesia proviene de “Yakjeonhyeon”, que significa colina de hierbas medicinales. Eso se debe a que el lugar donde la iglesia está situada era un cerro cubierto de plantas terapeúticas. Luego, “Yakjeonhyeon” fue acortado a “Yakhyeon” y así se denominaba a un área cercana a la cuesta entre Malli-dong y la Estación de Seúl. La Iglesia Católica Yakhyeon fue el primera iglesia de estilo occidental en Corea. Es la arquitectura gótica con la estructura cruciforme de 12 metros de ancho y 32 metros de largo. Asimismo posee ventanas arqueadas y una puerta ojival.
