Se cree que este templo fue fundado hacia el año 1208, los tiempos del rey Heejong, de la dinastía Goryeo. Hasta la Guerra de Corea se conservaban varios de sus pabellones más antiguos, pero muchos fueron destruidos. Recién en 1978 se levantaron nuevamente varios de ellos. En las cercanías, a exactamente 2 km hacia el este están las Cascadas Manyeon y hay un bosque que atrae a muchos turistas de pícnic y campamento.

Jardín Myeongokheon Wollim de Damyang (담양 명옥헌 원림)

Localizado en la eco-aldea de Husan-ri (Damyang, provincia de Jeollanam-do), el jardín Myeongokheon Wollim fue el jardín del erudito Oh Hui-do (1583-1623), de la dinastía Joseon, y servía como un simple santuario de campo donde los sabios daban conferencias, junto con el estanque de forma cuadrada en frente del pabellón que está rodeado de árboles con flores elegantes.

Myeongokheon (el nombre del pabellón) es la palabra para el sonido del jade cuando tintinea suavemente, describiendo el sonido del agua rompiendo suavemente a lo largo de la orilla del estanque. Los árboles florecidos alrededor del estanque incluyen pinos rojos entre otros, y al lado del riachuelo se encuentra una gran roca con el grabado de ‘鳴玉軒癸丑,’ en caracteres chinos donde pone 'Myeongokheonrim'.

En el lado derecho de Myeongokheon Wollim verá un árbol de 300 años, que es donde el rey Injo (1623-1649) de la dinastía Joseon ató su caballo cuando fue a visitar a Oh Hui-do. El jardín es tan bonito como el jardín Soswaewon y en 2009 fue designado Vista Escénica.

Built more than 80 years ago, Dasomchae is a 'hanok (traditional Korean house)' guesthouse located in Songjeong-dong, Gwangju-si. It has 12 guestrooms whose walls are covered with healthy, natural red clay. The blankets are filled with natural cotton for a good night's sleep. There are lots of grapevines and trees in the front yard, including yew, locust, Japanese angelica, pomegranate, jujube, and apricot trees. In summer, the chimney is covered with trumpet flowers, making for a picturesque view. There is also a Korean A-frame that has actually been used for decades. Songjeong is famous for its tteokgalbi (grilled short rib meat patties), which is one of the five must-eat food of Gwangju. There are many tteokgalbi restaurants around Gwangsan district office, but Songjeong’s history goes back to 1976 and making it the original store.

A good tteokgalbi is made by mixing the meat of beef short ribs and pork bone ribs in a one-to-one ratio and adding acacia honey to make the meat both tender and chewy. The dish is also reasonably priced. The secret to the delicious meat is the sauce, which is made with about 20 natural ingredients like kelp, radish, and green onion and no artificial seasonings. Also a pride of the restaurant is the broth made from pork bones which comes with the tteokgalbi.
