Seomun Market opened in its current location in the 1920s after reclaiming the Cheonhwangdangji Reservoir, but it has a much longer history. In the Joseon dynasty, Seomun Market was one of three major markets in the nation. It was called Seomun Market because it was located on the west side of the Daegu Fortress. Despite relocating, the alleyways of the original market still feature names of the items available there, such as Hongdukkae Pancake and Chicken Pancake Alley. Textile-related goods are the main products available now, but they also offer a little bit of everything else, including silk goods, dry goods, undershirts, crafts, dishes, clothes, and dried seafood.

Pohang Jukdo Market formed nearly 50 years ago, when market stalls began to form around the swampy area near the reed beds in the inner port of Pohang. In October 1969, the Jukdo Market Association was officially formed, becoming one of the largest traditional markets on Gyeongsangbuk-do’s east coast, home to nearly 1,500 shops. The market’s existence was threatened by the influx of large discount stores, but the merchants have banded together to overcome this challenge by creating Cyber Jukdo Market. About 500 meters from the center of Pohang at Ogeor is Jukdo Fish Market, the largest permanent market on the eastern coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do. Nearly 200 restaurants specializing in hoe (sliced raw fish) can be found on top of the market, serving fresh sliced raw fish at affordable prices throughout the season. Visitors can take their purchase to nearby restaurants to be prepared on the spot after paying a table setting fee. Famous dishes include the Pohang-style cold raw fish soup, made with fresh seasonal seafood, and abalone rice porridge, full of plump abalone. In winter, visitors can sample Pohang’s famous half-dried saury.

Located in Sinpo-dong, Incheon, Sinpo Market (3,300㎡) dates back to the late 19th century when vendors began selling fresh vegetables to the Japanese, Chinese, and Westerners who settled in the area. Sinpo Market was officially registered as a market in 1970 and now boasts over 140 stores.
An increasing number of tourists and international merchants have visited Incheon by ferries and cruise ships, turning the local market into an international shopping area over the past few decades. The information desk and office at the market even provide a variety of services (translation services, trade and shopping information, etc.) for tourists and merchants from home and abroad.
The most famous item of the market is dakgangjeong, a Korean dish of crispy fried chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. Other popular dishes include yuni jjajang, egg tart, freshwater fish jeon, mandu, and jjolmyeon (chewy noodles).
