Opened in 1992, Seoul Art Center Gongpyeong Gallery is a 17,791㎡, two-story building with four exhibition halls. It is one of the main galleries of Insa-dong, displaying diverse artwork ranging from Western and Korean paintings to sculptures. The ancient tombs in Bangi-dong were discovered during the land readjustment project of Jamsil-jigu District in 1975. A total of eight ancient tombs were excavated until 1976, and the site was restored into a park in 1983. The Bangi-dong area was originally a low line of hills with an altitude of 30-50 meters above sea level, but it has been made into flatland for urban development purposes. Tomb numbers 1 to 6 lie on the same hill, while tomb no. 7 and 8 are located on another hill a short distance away.
All eight tombs have circular burial mounds. The insides of the a tomb feature a square or rectangular-shaped burial chamber with earthen ground and stone walls, and a passage leading from the tomb entrance to the chamber. However, details of the burial chambers vary by tomb. Most of the tombs had been robbed before the investigation, but a few relics such as plates and pots have been excavated. At the time of excavation, the relics were presumed to have come from the Baekje dynasty (18 BC-660 AD), but it is now estimated that they date back to the Unified Silla Period (676-935 AD).

"Yangnyeongsi," which literally means medicine city district, refers to a central Oriental medicine district formed near major cities where medicinal herbs are collected and produced. Yangneongsi were first established by royal order during the Joseon dynasty for the purpose of effective production, distribution and management of medicinal products and herbs.
Seoul Yangnyeongsi Market history is relatively short, having formed naturally in the mid-1960s by medicinal herb merchants who gathered here seeking to sell their products with the city bus terminal and Cheongnyangni Station as their central base. Originally, these merchants came to Seoul through the old Seongdong Station and Chyeongnyangni Station after the Korean War, seeking to sell medicinal herbs and vegetation products that were cultivated and collected in the Gyeonggi-do and Gwangwon-do regions. This small market that was once open on an empty plot of land was later authorized as an official market establishment. Road and railroad developments between Gangwon-do and Seoul were followed and by the 1970s, the market grew into what is now seen today. The name Seoul Yangnyeongsi Market was given by the Seoul mayor in 1995.
